Howard K. Poon was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He attended the University of Alberta, completing a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Bachelor of Commerce degree where he graduated summa cum laude with the 7th highest average in the Faculty of Business. Howard plays in recreational touch football and slo-pitch leagues. He is an avid NFL fan having once been a high school quarterback at Strathcona High school.
