The terms “attorney” and “lawyer” are often used interchangeably. Attorney is more commonly used in the United States.
Lawyer is more commonly used in Canada:
- a “lawyer” is a person licensed to practice law
- the term “attorney” is frequently used in the context of “power of attorney,” referring to someone authorized to act on another’s behalf.
